Interim Director of Procurement

Interim Director of Procurement

Client:  Blue Chip Consultancy

Role(s): Interim Director of Procurement

Package:  £800-£1000/day

Outline:   Exclusive assignment to appoint an Associate Consultant to work with a consultancy’s end client in the FMCG sector. Their client was under going  a major transformation programme which included their procurement area; the business needed to restructure the function ahead of appointing a permanent Procurement Director.  Part of the role was to undertake a diagnostic of spend and identify possible future savings targets.

How we handled the search: Our Interim Managing Consultant met with the consultancy to understand and evolve the brief.  This provided a clear insight into the scope of the role, the required deliverables and ROI, timescales and likely candidate profile.  Having a good knowledge of the Consumer Sector and senior candidates who had previously delivered similar assignments we reached out to our network to provide a detailed brief and establishing interest. A pre-qualified shortlist of 4 candidates was provided complete with assessment written profiles within an 8 hour time period.  Initial Skype interviews were setup with the consultancy  before face to face interviews with the end client. Our client gave the feedback that all candidates ‘passed the mark’ and the role was offered to the ‘best fit’ candidate working at £980/day plus expenses.  The candidate started the week later after contracts were put in place (1 year’s contract).

What difference did our candidate make?  The successful candidate started to deliver a detailed diagnostic and identified immediate possible savings.  The carried out a series of meetings with key stakeholders to build trust and establish collaborative ways of working.  They also put in place a new organisational design and restructured the team alongside making recommendations about new procurement processes. Through careful tracking of the benefits delivered, our client has confirmed that ROI expectations have been exceeded.
